Summer is Here!
Every year, when summer comes around I get a little overzealous and create a ridiculously long reading list. It's a seasonal "itch." That can be traced back to childhood. When I was a kid, the library had a quasi-summer reading contest, for each book you finished, you received a gold star. What can I say, I really liked receiving gold stars!!
This year a few books on my list are: Hakawati by Rabih Alameddine, The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, Just Kids by Patti Smith, Tis: A Memoir by Frank McCourt, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris, Shanghai Girls: A Novel by Lisa See, etc....
What is on your summer reading list??

Crocodile Creek Playground Balls (5" and 7")
- great picture taken by Ahd Child
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ahdchild/4577426830/
"Slams, Cherry Bombs, Twisters, Egg Drops, Double Taps, NO Bobbling!!"
Did you understand that?? This is my command - as the four square king. Unfortunately, rule as the four square king is brief, i'll be overthrown shortly, but i'll get in the back of the line, and try to work my way, up to king, to shout out my favorite command!!
If you haven't played in a long time, or don't know what I am talking about, check out this link: http://www.squarefour.org/rules --- as kids, we never played by the official rules and had tons of made up commands but that added to the fun of it.
What's your favorite game to play with a playground ball?

New to the Shop: Sophie, le Teether!
A few of the many reasons why we love Sophie:
- her spots (visually stimulate the littlest eyes)
- her squeak
- her nooks and crannies (quite good for chewing on)
- her scent (100% natural rubber and food paint)
- her soft texture
- Phthalates and BPA free

Three Ways to Wear a Bow
As a hair clip, as a bow tie, as a necklace!
Modeled by Navy's Sister, Midnight, and Navy himself (as mentioned, Navy really does love his bowties!)
What's your favorite way to wear a bow?
Scooooooooters!!
There are some things that represent certain places. To me, scooters represent Brooklyn.
In the past Brooklyn kids strapped milk or orange crates to skate wheels and made their own scooters. These DIY scooters would definitely not pass the safety standards of today. But, kids today don't have to fret. They can buy mini scooters (in fun colors)!
We love these Mini Kickboards. And we ordered them in aqua and orange - an unconscious homage to the milk and orange crates of the past??

flower child
At the beginning of every season i think to myself "... yeah this one is my favorite season". Maybe its the soft spot i have for beginnings that makes the smell of damp grass just as exciting as the first trickle of melted snow into my winter boots. So here we are, just on the cusp of spring.. and I cant imagine any other season smelling as sweet!
We've packed the shop with a rainbow of spring dresses! so pop by the shop and we'd be more than happy to help you find the perfect frock for your flower child. oh and i've got this really funny joke about a bird.

shake, rattle and store!
My favorite tid-bit of knowledge acquired while apartment hunting in new york city was that a prison cell is 6 feet by 9 feet.
Confession (Part One): I have paid good money to live in a bedroom a little bit smaller than a prison cell!
Confession (Part Two): I have quite the collection of treasures (that only grows with time).
So, I need and love finding cute, yet practical storage solutions.
Look at these finds:
Stop in the store to check them out in person

If you are like me, finding stuff to fill them, won't be a problem!

Favorite things week continues... Lauren
Hey guys! guess it my turn...
clockwise:
1. flame sneakers by morgan and milo... easy to see why these sneaks warm up my heart, boys naturally rock them, but i love them on daring little girls.
2. monster finger puppets... when it's too scary (COLD) to go outside, making these monster puppets (and monster voices) is such a blast!
3. neon green storage chair aka "treasure chest" chair... finally a place to store all of life's little treasures (that seem to accumulate so quickly)! an essential chair for a new york apartment: functional storage made in neon green!!!
4. world traveler magnetic doll... i love this for two reasons: the tin makes it great for the morning commute; the best outfits are so easy to "hang" on the refrigerator. i wish i had this when i was a kid!
oo,
-Lauren
all you need is love... accordions and slide whistles
a few of my favorite things
clockwise:
1. an accordion (for kids and adults!) a real no-brainer, why not serenade your sweetie(and everyone else)!
2. makit toy-i spent many hours (...maybe to many to admit to) of my childhood building extensive structures to house my wayward dolls, so of course these had to make the list.
3. u.f.o. tee shirt... all the fun of alien invasions without any of the nasty side affects!
4. sliding into 4th place is the classic slide whistle, makes bad jokes a lot funnier. (very handy)
come check out these and loads of other cool things at the shop, maybe i'll even tell you a bad joke or 2.
